Viewers and fans of Dancing with the Stars this season were shown The Situation’s situation, seen “The Hills” come alive and watched a teen activist step out of her mother’s shadow. However, this season will always be known for the shocking eliminations that seem to be coming every week. No one is safe, even after earning a perfect score.
Season 11 started with a lot of buzz thanks to a few people; Jennifer Grey was dancing again, Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino was going to do something other than fist pump and Bristol Palin was finally front and center. The season began with David Hasselhoff being eliminated with little fanfare followed by Michael Bolton. These men were shortly followed by comedian Margaret Cho, The Situation and Florence Henderson.
The real drama started during the sixth elimination. “The Hills” reality star Audrina Patridge was voted off to the shock of fans and the judges alike. As Rock Week came to an end, Patridge was firmly on the scoreboard with the second highest overall total of the night but was non-the-less eliminated by voters. Judge Len Goodman was “almost at a loss for words” and went on to say there was “no justice” in the ousting of the reality star.
The alarming vote-off of such a high scorer is not something the show or the stars are accustomed to and it didn’t end there. Week seven continued the stunning elimination with Rick Fox and Cheryl Burke being voted off even though Fox got glowing judges marks during his quickstep and his highest marks of the season.
Perhaps the most shocking elimination of the season so far is that of Brandy and Maksim Chmerkovskiy. Brandy started the season off strong but in week five became the first person to dethrone Jennifer Gray as top scorer of the week. She and Chmerkovskiy took off from there and consistently impressed the judges with their footwork and chemistry on the dance floor.
Although week nine wasn’t Brandy’s highest scoring week, she got consistent praise from the judges and scored a perfect 30 on one of her two dances. Confused faces were seen and boos heard throughout the ballroom after it was revealed Brandy was going home and Bristol Palin would go on to the finals.
Disney star Kyle Massey, Jennifer Gray and Bristol Palin are the three finalists left standing. Instead of focusing on Jennifer Grey’s big comeback to center stage or Kyle Massey becoming more of a man and less of a goofball, the sole focus is on Palin and who hoards of fans think should’ve been the one to go home.
Will week 10, The Finals, live up to the shock factor of the previous weeks or will someone “deserving” walk away with the mirrorball trophy?
